Are you qualified in hairdressing and confident with hair of all textures? Do you have a good understanding of wig design, wig making and maintenance? Can you lead, supervise and support team members? Do you want to be part of a busy, hard-working and creative team?
We are looking for an experienced Senior Wigs, Hair and Make-Up Artist to ensure that effective and efficient technical support is in place for all RSC productions in both the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and the Swan Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon.
We are ideally looking for someone that can start in late October 2024 for a fixed term contract of 12 months.
Reporting to the Head of Wigs, Hair and Make Up, key areas of responsibility include (please see the full job description and person specification for the comprehensive list):
Assisting and deputising for the Specialised Senior in the efficient and effective administration of the Wigs department
Maintaining all wigs and hairpieces to the highest standard
Providing wigs support for shows performed on any of the Stratford stages
Recreating artistic and creative ideals
Supporting in the set-up of shows in venues away from Stratford
Assisting with the smooth running or all get-ins, rehearsals, performances, changeovers and get-outs
Demonstrating an understanding and broad knowledge of wig design, wig making and maintenance, hairdressing, make-up and other wig related disciplines
Ensuring health and safety procedures are adhered to
Assisting the RSC Touring team
To be suitable for this role, it is essential that you have the following knowledge and experience:
Competency and confidence working with wigs and hair of all textures, for example braiding and box-braiding.
Competency using make-up on all skin tones.
Good understanding of wig design, wig making and maintenance, and hairdressing.
Leadership and supervisory skills, the ability to support team members.
The ability to use your own initiative and work as a team
Good communication and organisation skills.
All-round hair cutting skills.
This role is a full-time, fixed term position for 12 months. You will be working an average of 48 hours per week, 6 days out of 7, which include evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays.
