We are looking for a Venue and Technical Manager to join the National Theatre New Work Team.
The purpose of the role
The New Work Department, based in the National Theatre Studio, has three studio spaces where new work is developed through workshops, R&Ds and readings. The Venue and Technical Manager facilitates all the technical requirements of the Studio activity ensuring each project has a bespoke, safe and creative environment in which theatre can be developed. This can range from setting up chairs and recording equipment to more complex requirements such as set builds and/or detailed LX, Sound and Video set up. Alongside this, this role leads on venue management and operations for our building on The Cut.
The National Theatre Studio is open Monday - Friday during office hours. This role will work outside these hours on Fridays (into the early evening) to facilitate get ins and outs, but in the majority will be weekdays and daytime hours.
The successful candidate will have the following:
  • Demonstrable experience in the disciplines and systems of stage craft and production management.  This could be with a particular background in stage or production management, sound and video, lighting, design, props making or experience of managing venue operations.
  • A confident decision maker with experience of realising the ideas of artists with sensitivity and flexibility, with the ability to deliver from a practical point of view whilst communicating with a wide range of backgrounds and skills.
  • Experience of managing individuals and teams, ensuring high-level engagement and continued skills development.
  • Experience of budget management coupled with superb organisational skills.
  • Established experience of leading on risk management and assessment in a theatrical setting.
