Role purpose and overview
This is a key role as part of the award-winning Telegraph Women’s Sport team.
The role involves producing women’s football content in a digital-first capacity, and will include traditional reporter disciplines like coverage of live matches, news gathering, feature and interview writing, opinion/analysis pieces and investigations. You should be confident when working autonomously, away from the wider team.
It will also provide the chance to develop strategies for telling women’s football stories across social and digital channels.
Working with the sports desk to set the agenda in women’s football across a seven-day rota
Generating unique and interesting feature ideas to help engage readers and maximise digital traffic
News and match reporting
Writing engaging news, features, interviews and analysis
Attendance at events and regular contribution of off-diary content
Producing content across all Telegraph platforms, including social media
Ensuring fast and accurate filing of copy
Previous journalistic experience of writing sports content for a newspaper or website
Strong news sense and expertise in developing stories on digital and print platforms
Confidence writing news, match reports, features, analysis and comment
Ability to engage with audiences and build communities on different platforms
Previous experience covering women’s football
An understanding of digital storytelling and optimisation of content through social media and SEO across a range of platforms would be advantageous
Existing contacts within women’s football are desirable
Being able to deliver video would be a great bonus to our online offering
