Brief- To rebrand the toucanBox magazine with the concept of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Maths), including everything from developing a new style guide and layout for the magazine, to designing brand new characters and packaging for the box and craft materials. Roles and skills Assisting the senior designer with every stage of the project -from scamping to presenting to the rest of the teams. Leading monthly magazines. Brainstorming. Storyboarding. Execution of design (illustrating). Proofing. Preparing for print. Time management. Communication between teams. Main Idea- When considering the old magazine style, as a team we decided to really simplify the characters and general visual across the magazine in order to strengthen the audience engagement and extend clarification of the concept of STEAM without overcomplicating. The STEAM characters all have their own icons, helping the reader understand which field of education they’re interacting with on certain pages. We also aimed to create templates for static pages such as the experiment, recipe and editorial spreads, in order to maintain consistency. During the design process, we consulted with focus groups, gathered customer feedback and amended the design accordingly to create the best customer experience.
