About me
I am a recent graduate in Fine Art specialising in photography. I’m keen to continue developing my skills and secure a position within a photographic team. I have a good working knowledge of photographic techniques and equipment, studio lighting and image processing software, as well as a great eye for composition and detail. I am also very organised and efficient, with an ability to learn quickly.
Projects
  • Impermanence
ImpermanenceThis work was made during a residency at Arteles, Finland which provided silence days and limited access to internet with an emphasis on mindfulness and meditation. My environment was the Finnish countryside in the dead of winter. With 6 hours of daylight, I went on long walks collecting materials found in surrounding forests and lakes. I worked through the long nights exposing prints in the landscape and my studio. I researched the effects of light, temperature and moisture on light sensitive paper. Being surrounded by nature through a season of decay, I thought a lot about change. I used materials that were in an observable state of change. I placed snow, ice, and foliage onto light sensitive paper that was exposed by sunlight and lamps. These exposures ranged from 30 seconds to several days. After the exposure, the prints were fixed, a photographic chemical that stops and stabilises the papers reaction to light. Some remain unwashed, meaning the photographic chemical is still in these prints, causing them to deteriorate over the coming years. This work is a reflection on the futility of seizing change and has helped me in processing the impermanence of all things in life.
  • Spatial Forms
Spatial FormsThe Spatial Forms photograms bypass the use of the camera entirely and display a direct reinterpretation of the material and form to light and shadow. The structures used to make these photograms are flat transparent materials manipulated with the aid of cutting and thread. The aim of this work is to bring back a sense of curiosity and wonder to the photographical image making process as photography has become increasingly integral to modern life. The resulting image presents what obstructs the light and delineates the ambiguity of depth from a photographic perspective. In doing so, the work reveals what is lost and gained in the photographical image making process.
  • Associative Memory
Associative MemoryThis body of work was done while I studied in the University of Fine Arts in Poznan for three months. As a foreigner, my day to day life resulted in the act of photographing as a way of experiencing and understanding my environment. On returning home, I sorted through hundreds of photographs and compiled the images to represent my thought process as I experienced them. The act of looking and association to make sense of the environment is something we all do. It can be interesting and stimulating but it can also be confusing and tiring.
