- Daye Jack - No Data [Album Review]Emerging Hip Hop Artist Daye Jack started his music career in 2014 at 18 years old whilst studying computer science at NYU, releasing the ‘Hello World’ EP. Since then, after signing to Warner Bros. Records releasing the 2015 EP ‘Soul Glitch’ and ‘Surf The Web’ – a 7 track project released in 2016, Daye has also gone on to work with Run the Jewels’ Killer Mike and now the 21 year old Daye has released his debut LP ‘No Data’. Although ‘No Data’ is seemingly a Hip Hop album at its core, as far as
- Kanye West - Ye [Album Review]' Kanye West. At times a problematic figure, but now undoubtedly one of the best producers/artists of the last two decades at the very least; if we look at statistics and record sales. Unfortunately, for better or worse it seems that when he does anything at all it’ll be frontpage news – be it positive or negative which has somewhat marred his legacy from some people’s perspectives. Every single album West has released since his sophmore effort ‘Late registration’ has now debuted at number 1 o
- Joseph Shabason - Anne [Album Review]'The sophomore album of Joseph Shabason ‘Anne’ is an interesting study. With ambience over-layed with Shabason’s jazzy saxophonist fingerprints, it chronicles over the course of nine tracks Anne; Joseph Shabason’s mother whom the LP is titled after, and her personal perspectives on coping with the serene tragedy of Parkinson’s disease. The album opens with the relatively sombre tones of ‘I Thought I Could Get Away With It’, the opener features our first of the excerpts of interviews with Anne
- Tom Misch releases ‘Geography’ featuring Goldlink + De La Soul [Feature/Album Review]'The first time I encountered Tom Misch’s work was an interesting experience. In 2015 Jaden Smith dropped a loosie track on Soundcloud (via Willow Smith’s page), ‘Offering’ – an intriguing stream of consciousness that made me take him more seriously as an artist. Also, Jaden aside -there was something about the bluesy brass sample on the track that made me keep returning it. The label ‘(Prod. by Tom Misch)’ stuck with me, but I didn’t really investigate any further. Fast forward several month
- D Double E - Jackuum [Album Review]'In various genres there are names of veteran groups or artists that are synonymous with the genre being talked about. For grime music (although he began his musical career in the jungle and garage scene) one of those such artists is D Double E – a London native of Jamaican descent, and part of the group Newham Generals. It’s hard to dispute D Double E‘s (Real name Darren Dixon and often just referred to as ”D Double” for short) notable commitment to the rise of the grime genre when it was in i
- Ragz Originale - Nature [Album Review]'With ‘Nature’ London native Ragz Originale has delivered a nuanced debut album which blends an array of styles, such as hip-hop, R&B and electronic music. If you haven’t heard the name before then maybe you’ve heard his work – Ragz produced the infectious smash hit track ‘Shutdown’ with Skepta for the 2016 ‘Konnichiwa’ album. As the head of the Mini Kingz collective; which includes two other interesting artists to watch and listen out for – #Oscarworldpeace and Cartae (who features on this alb
