I am a London based photographer and visual artist born and raised in Greece. My work is situated between Art and Fashion photography, is influenced by the virility of Greek and Roman sculptures while wears the colour palette and shades of renaissance aesthetic.
Portrait and fashion photography is my passion as through this I can express my artistic modality of vision. Having a surrealistic approach to the final pictorial result, my interesting in photography grew more graphical. I’m not interesting much in representing the real but in image making and experimenting with image manipulation. I always like playing around with the possibilities of photography, to challenge and discover new potentials for the medium from both perspectives, the photography as a process and post production.
Artistically I’m exploring the male gaze when both spectator and subject are males. With my recent work I’m visually questioning predominant constructs and performances of gender. Furthermore, I’m interested in ideas related to mental health, equality, human behaviour and surrealistic representation of the ordinary life.
My interest in photography began when I was a young. Known as ‘the one who takes the best pictures,’ I would use my Kodak instamatic camera for taking family pictures and personal portraits.
Throughout transcendental experimentations, I have sought out ideas and influences not only for well composed and appropriately lit imagery, but also powerful enough to communicate my ideas.
The fundamentals in photography came through experimentation and self-study, a process which helped me to develop my own intuitive approach to photography. However, I have always been keen to gain formal and vocational education in order to become a beneficiary of the knowledge and the experience of photography experts. I’ve been able to develop my knowledges in photography academically by studying Art and Design in Walsall College and the London College of Contemporary Arts, and Art Photography in Westminster School of Arts.
Distinctive elements in my pictures are the strong contrast and dramatic effects as well as my personal artistic approach that is a result of research before the shooting and postproduction.
