With all projects by Ana Maria Lima Dimitrijevic, there is a sense of excitement about the ways we familiarize ourselves with our surroundings. She is devoted to translating her perceptions of everyday encounters. Through rediscovery, writing and hand made processes, she creates poetic responses which invite a more sensitive understanding of daily life. She exploits the versatility of photography to develop playful ways of introducing multimedia works to become part of common experience.
Ana Maria Lima Dimitrijevic (b. 1992, London) is of Serbian/Brazilian descent and currently lives and works in London. She graduated with a BA in Fine Art at Chelsea College of Arts (2011-2014) including an Erasmus exchange at Iceland Academy of the Arts (2013) and has since exhibited in Denmark, Finland and in the UK. She is a resident artist at ASC Art House studio community in Croydon, South London.
Projects
- These are my knees everyone! 2014Mixed media installation at Chelsea College of Arts Undergraduate Show, London, June 2014. An installation integrated into an open archway that looks out onto a public square, a central part of the existing building of my college, Chelsea College of Arts. It is a popular outdoor place in the college to sit and hang out, appreciated by the students and members of the public. This space had not been taken care of so well. To make it more inviting as a 'hang out space', I designed my piece with the intention of creating the feeling of a summer house space. The installation consisted of a sound system with a recording playing on a loop with a 20 min silence break between each repeat. Large format prints were also integrated into the existing structure created from photos of my knees at the beach. Finally, also installed, were two remote controlled roller blinds, tailored for my installation with a design printed onto a semi-transparent material for the blind, animating the static large prints when rolling up and down.
