About me
I am a highly skilled undergraduate (due to graduate in July) studying for a BA (Honours) in Textile Design for Fashion and/or Interiors at Bath Spa University, specialising in the manipulation of fabric in a contemporary and inventive way.
Whilst at university, I have specialised in leather surface design, aimed at the luxury handbag market. I take an experimental approach towards construction by creating tactile surfaces that provoke interaction and imagination from audiences. The unique concept behind my work looks at the increasing unsustainable demand for change within the fashion handbag industry, and how this could potentially be resolved through the approach of interchangeable textile based surfaces. Through the use of fastenings, my designs have the ability to be de-constructed and re-constructed to form a new design, showing off a new colour, texture or material.
I have developed strong IT skills through developing my digital designs within Adobe Illustrator to create my own laser cut fabric surfaces. I also have strong research skills, particularly in the researching of new trends and creating and presenting visual mood boards to express concepts and ideas to others.
Projects
- Interchangeable'Interchangeble' took inspiration from the natural folds, curves and textures found within exotic shells. The surfaces have been translated through contemporary fabric manipulation, with the incorporation of unconventional fastenings as a means of providing both practical function, and embelishment details. Leather and neoprene materials have been combined together to create double sided materials , representing the contrast of surfaces found within shells; rough and smooth, and glossy and matte. The project consists of fabric surface design samples, aimed at the high end luxury handbag market. The concept behind this project looks into the increasing unsustainable demand for constant change within the fashion industry, and how this could be potentially resolved through the approach of interchangeable textile based surfaces
- Modern Armour'Modern Armour' has taken inspiration from the beautifully intricate surfaces found within traditional Japanese Samurai Armour. The project explores how metals, yarns and leather materials were woven together and layered upon each other to create lavishly detailed and ornate protective armours. The collection consists of a variety of leather based surfaces aimed at the luxury handbag market. A variety of fastenings have been incorported into the surfaces to create an interchangeable aspect, with the fastenings providing the option for deconstruction, and reconstruction, allowing audiences to interact with the designs.
