I am a Woven Designer currently based in Norfolk, UK. I graduated from Norwich University of the Arts in July 2017 with a First Class BA(Hons) in Textile Design.
In January 2018 I decided to start my own Woven Design Business, with the aim to work on products, collections and commissions. Currently I am still in the very early stages of running my own business and beginning to find my feet.
In April 2018 I joined a shared studio space based in Norwich where I am now starting my woven journey to create new designs. In June this year I will also be taking part in New Designers One Year In - Part One based in London to help kick-start my journey.
My woven fabrics are inspired by our surroundings. I explore nature and architecture to inform my designs, looking at details and simple patterns. I work with photography and drawing to create graphic bold motifs which I translate onto the loom and into my woven fabrics.
On the loom, I consider my use of yarn and materials to include intense bold colour and reflect on the inspiration, while thinking about what is suitable for the final product or design.
I use a few different techniques on the loom to be able to create my fabrics. I create large simple flat designs for simple affordable products but also padded structural designs with embossed forms and structures which come straight off the loom to create more luxury products.
Projects
- Unnoticed. Undiscovered. Enhanced. This collection is inspired by our surroundings, using photography and drawing to create graphic bold motifs which translate onto the loom and into her woven fabrics. Designs specifically look at the details and patterns missed while on journeys, exploring macro nature and city architecture to inform pattern and colour. The graphic motifs and embossed forms use strong colours in a sophisticated approach. With the use of polypropylene yarn, it allows for the intense bold colour to reflect the in
- Formula ActiveThis project was designed for Womens Sportwear, inspired by architecture from different places Formula 1 has toured around. This inspiration idea was led from the previous project of race car inspiration, looking for ideas in a less literal manner. I have created digital designs alongside my woven cloths in this project to improve my digital skills and to explore a different use of materials for the chosen context. I have created 2 collections within this project, one with hints of red and one
- Automotive InversionThis project is designed for Automotive Interiors. It was inspired by colours and motif on the exterior if BTCC race cars. I took colours and motifs to create drawings and inform my weaves. I used various different materials such as Cotton, Silk and Steel, Polypropylene and Car Upholstery yarn. I used wide range of colours over and black and blue warp, this allowed me to create many different samples from one warp. This was my first intensely coloured collection designed for Automotive Interior
