- APOLOGIA Apologia (apology, in English) is an Ancient Greek word that can mean both an expression of remorse or regret and a formal justification or defence. A newspaper-like publication, it subverts the classic newspaper structure with the oversaturation of black and the reshaping of the text - though there are still four columns, they are diagonally organised. Apologia is presented in the first person and tries to conciliate contrasting ideas, showing both sides of the coin and its edge.
- RITE (FOR) IDEASThe Rite (for) Ideas theory and booklet was created in response to one of the questions asked by Wieden + Kennedy's in The Kennedys internship application: You wake up in a room with a dolphin, a half eaten peanut butter and jelly sandwich and a man named Gustavo. What happened? You just completed the Rite (for) Ideas. This Rite is explained in a booklet. It starts with a introduction to The Kennedys program and David Kennedy himself. From there on, it lists and explains each element you need to create a successful idea and therefore good design. The mental Room, the research Sandwich, the Dolphin guidance and the Gustavo approval. If you follow these steps you can hopefully create a better world.
- NEW OBJECT RESEARCH '16 - Show invites and notes Aitor Throup's New Object Research 'The Rite of Spring / Summer / Autumn / Winter' show marked his comeback to the Fashion Week schedule after a 3 years' hiatus. It replaced human models with articulated sculptures, created in his image and brought to life by puppeteers. Depicting Throup's journey, the garments turned from black to white as the show progressed. In line with the show's autobiographical tone, the typography in the invitations gets less deformed as the seasons ascend: from the warped creative void of Winter to the epiphany, transcendence and clarity of Spring. The show invite also features a blind emboss, inspired by the tonal embroidered branding of the garments.
- KASABIAN "FOR CRYING OUT LOUD" Kasabian’s longest serving roadie Rick Graham is the cover star of "For Crying Out Loud". Captured in a series of monochromatic portraits by Neil Bedford, the different characters for the album cover and each single are further fleshed out by the British artist Daft Apeth's illustrations, in particular the cascading digital tears prominent on the album artwork. Under the creative direction of Aitor Throup, these elements were put together in a collection of covers that share the same grid-based layout, with alternating bold typography (based on operating systems' default fonts) and pastel backgrounds. The stripped down design is inspired by both the use of graphics and type in the world of fine art and punk fanzines and post-modernist graphic design in their adherence to a no-rules approach, breaking free of any learnt or previously exercised restrictions, whilst respecting and celebrating the core principles of design.
