About me
I am a textile designer specialising in print design for fashion. My art work is inspired by the flowing patterns and colours in nature. I use my painting and hand drawing skills to create bold vibrant designs. The contemporary Impressionist artist Jessica Zoob has influenced my artistic style. Her work has encouraged me to experiment painting florals on a large scale and to create textured marks in my work. Furthermore, I use a thick impasto painting technique to add layers and depth to my art work. Finally, I scan my designs into photoshop and layer them together to create intricate digital prints. I have also recently completed an internship in London at fashion company Hermione de Paula. During this placement I gained experience working in a fashion studio designing drawings to be embroidered and printed on to high end garments.
Projects
  • Dark Impressionist Blooms
Dark Impressionist BloomsIn my final project at university I have designed a printed textile collection for high end fashion, inspired by French Impressionists paintings of gardens. I have undertaken trend research and completed some large scale vibrant paintings of florals. My collection takes painting in an innovative direction, merging the boundaries between blurred photography and fine art. I have created a bold, imaginative, contemporary collection inspired by the techniques of the French Impressionists. I received
  • Joules Competition - High Commendation
Joules Competition - High CommendationThe English garden was the inspiration for the womenswear collection that I designed for the Joules competition. My collection was inspired by both French Impressionist paintings of gardens and the work of contemporary Impressionist artists. The works of Jessica Zoob influenced my paintings of bold, large-scale flowers using a thick impasto painting technique. I used these as bold floral prints in my collection. Incorporating painterly textures into the background of my prints was another method influenced by this artist. In addition, I have used a few elements of my paintings to create a couple of coordinate ditsy prints. My designs were also inspired by the work of contemporary Impressionist photographers like Garry Black. Their influence can be seen in my use of the opacity tool on photoshop to blur my paintings of leaves. I have made some of my designs more commercial by making the prints multi directional.  My research on the Joules brand encouraged me to use a few vibrant colours in the collection and to include some textured painterly stripes which I have combined with my floral paintings
  • Visage Brief
Visage BriefI completed a competition brief to design a digital print for a swimwear range at a high street retailer. I have been inspired by The Tropical Jungle Spring/Summer 18 trend which is particularly popular on the catwalk. My digital print has been influenced by fashion couture designers such as Osklen Praia who has a collection based on tropical prints. I have also been inspired by digital Impressionist photographers such as Steven Vandervelde, to layer drawings of leaves together and paint them during different times of the day to capture a momentary, sensory effect. I have used a limited but sophisticated tropical colour palette, so my design is suited for its target market.

I worked within a team to design a bespoke embroidered wedding dress. I designed some floral patterns and typography to scale, which was then embroidered on to the dress. I also worked under the direction of Hermione de Paula; I helped to get her high-end fashion prints ready for industry and experimented putting them into repeat. Gained experience dealing with clients who had appointments at the studio.

In the Joules competition I designed a printed fashion collection inspired by the English garden. My designs were inspired by my own blurred photography which I have painted on top of using a thick impasto painting technique.
