About me
Ambitious student, social commentary blogger and freelance print/broadcast journalist with a confident and optimistic can-do attitude to life, as well as a humanitarian concern for worldly injustices.
Through blogging, talk shows, radio shows, podcasts and documentaries, I aim to take advantage of the level of influence the media has in today’s world, to raise awareness about sociopolitical issues (i.e. institutional racism, political corruption, FGM and modern-day slavery) which are censored by mainstream media outlets.
Projects
- 'Fifty Shades of Real' PodcastThroughout my first year of university, I co-presented Leeds Student Radio’s ‘BME show’, one of the radio station’s core shows, which gives a voice to the experiences of Black, Asian and other minority ethnic students on campus. In my second year of university. This experience paved the way to me producing and presenting my own weekly radio show called ‘Fifty Shades of Real’, which also featured debates and discussions surrounding socio-political issues. Work history
Student AmbassadorUniversity of Leeds
Leeds, United KingdomPart Time
I currently work as a Student Ambassador at the University of Leeds. My role is to assist in promoting the university by hosting on-campus events such as campus tours, accommodation viewings and Open Days. Through tasks such as welcoming and interacting with visitors, responding to students’ and parents’ queries about the university and setting up spaces for events, my confidence, communication skills and ability to socialise with strangers have further improved. Additionally, working in collaboration with fellow student ambassadors to represent the university in a positive light has reinforced my ability to work in a team, towards a common goal, and has also ingrained in me the importance of representing a brand positively as an ambassador.

Education
Bachelor of Arts (BA) University of Leeds
Leeds, United Kingdom
I chose to study BA English and Sociology because I knew that the degree course would offer me a dynamic and varied skillset. On one hand, the English Literature aspect of my degree has equipped me with effective writing/communication skills, as well as the ability to analyse pieces of text thoroughly and in detail, yet efficiently. On the other hand, the Sociology element of my degree has provided me with the capacity to think critically about wider social issues, with a focus on race and criminality, the effects of colonisation, the social construction of gender identity and the evolution of capitalism and modernity. It has also equipped me with knowledge of how society functions and how individuals interact with one another to achieve a common societal goal or to develop their sense of personal and collective identity.
