I am Ewa Dykas, a multidisciplinary designer, who graduated from University of the Arts London (LCC) in 2020. I have since worked with Uncommonly, a creative design agency, on a variety of design projects, working with clients such as; Savills, The Ritz-Carlton Abama, Oetker Collection, St. Regis, Goodwood and Rolls-Royce.
Graphic Design has always been a part of my cultural heritage. Poland being renowned for their poster designs, in which during the Communist regime they were probably the only colourful things one would see in the streets. I love mixing different mediums like graphic design and photography. I am driven by image, print, imperfections and experimentation through the use of organic material. I am thrilled to be taking this next step in my career as I explore new opportunities, which will allow me to further discover myself as a designer.
Projects
- The Islander Magazine for The Ritz Carlton, AbamaWhilst working at Uncommonly, I designed a unique print Magazine focused on Tenerife adventures and luxury lifestyle for The Ritz Carlton, Abama hotel. As the lead designer I looked into a variety of layouts to showcase both Spanish and English text clearly for the reader, through the use of two colours black and terracotta to connect to the colour of the Ritz-Carlton, Abama building.
- Poster Design - SPECIES OF SPACESAfter gaining a good understanding of Georges Perec’s book “Species of Spaces”. I designed a purely typographic response using the text from the following chapters — The Apartment/ The Apartment Building/ The Street. My final outcome was print based in the form of three A1 posters. I included elements of shape, which I used to represent each chapter.
- 20:20 – STORIES OF MOVING LINEAGE - From Kosovo to London20:20 was initiated by Salusbury World Refugee Centre, a unique and visionary school-based refugee charity in north-west London, which collected oral histories of 20 of their first families to celebrate their 20th anniversary. The Centre asked us to create a visual interpretation of one of the recordings. From Kosovo to London is a multi-media experience focusing on a story of homeland, from adaptation to exile and a celebration of resilience from a refugee named Gent, who came to the UK 20 year
- AN EDITORIAL ON WOMEN, ADVERTISING AND SOCIAL MEDIAA written 10,000 word thesis alongside a designed and printed publication. This publication focuses on women and the way they were represented in adverts within the ‘60s and the ways in which they are currently displayed on social media platforms such as Instagram. The concept of unachievable body standards comes from the way women are photographed within mainstream media. This is often inspired by high profile celebrities or influencer’s, which as a result feed the ‘Male Gaze’. The design of th
- SATELLITE: EXPLORING NEPALExploring Nepal is an editorial which focuses on areas of Nepal, such as its different locations or common themes, observed during my journey through three major cities; Chitwan, Pokhara and Kathmandu. This content was recorded through photographic means. The ‘Exploring Nepal’ publication is accompanied by a website equivalent, which enhances the journey from the book with a digital experience.
