About me
Imaginative and resourceful Womenswear design graduate capable of seeing projects through from concept to completion in creative and technical areas. I have developed a strong eye for detail and enjoy experimenting with pattern cutting to create conceptual yet wearable garments that are focused on cut and detail. I have just recently completed an Masters in Fashion and textiles which has been a great experience and has cemented my determination to work within the fashion industry. The self directed nature of the Mdes Fashion course has been integral to me in developing myself creatively and technically as a designer aswell as a person as I feel I am a highly motivated and determined individual. It allowed me to really learn about my own design process and refine my skills whilst constantly challenging myself and pushing them further. I have experienced some short industry placements where I gained knowledge of how companies and their design teams operate. I thoroughly enjoyed working and learning from others within a design team. I feel this is the next step for me as a designer to be able to gain more experience of this in the industry.
Projects
  • Rued ss14
Rued ss14Rued S/S14 inspired by street art and geometric influences was created through a collaboration of textile design, fashion design and fashion marketing students working together through cross disciplines. The womenswear collection inspired by street style incorporates digitally printed silks with angular geometric cuts.
  • HIDDEN UTOPIA A/W 15
HIDDEN UTOPIA A/W 15Hidden Utopia A/W 15 Womenswear collection stems from a personal interest in the underground clubbing culture in Berlin. Clubs in Berlin are concealed within unsuspecting buildings, hidden behind ordinary surfaces and doors that you would never know was there unless you knew about them, you have to get lost to discover them, go on a journey that pushes you out of your comfort zone; expect the unexpected. This has laid the creative platform for the collection with the dark aesthetics and textures of the post-industrial derelict environments inspiring colour and fabric direction and the distorted exaggerated shapes the lighting in these utopian clubs creates on the body influencing the silhouette. The element of concealed, off set, unexpected details inspired by the architectural qualities of these clubs are present throughout garments as this is pivotal in reflecting the unpredictable nature of the Berlin clubbing culture.
  • S K U L P T U R V ( ) I D - Masters Degree Collection
S K U L P T U R V ( ) I D - Masters Degree CollectionS K U L P T U R V ( ) I D is the creation of conceptual, sculptural but ultimately wearable pieces for Womenswear. This project started out as a continuation of my Honours year collection but has taken a completely new and exciting direction which is inspired by abstract sculptural forms by the sculptors Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore. The collections silhouettes are inspired by the offset forms and details in Hepworths sculpture. Soft draped silk and jersey dresses against more structural wool outerwear pieces. Fluid asymmetry runs through garments from silhouette to detail. I have experimented with Japanese pattern cutting techniques to create ‘voids’ within the fabric to reflect the apertures and gauged out cavities as seen in Hepworth and Moore’s work. Alongside voids I have created growths on the fabric’s surface creating shapes that are inspired by the sculpture forms offset curved shapes that gives the garments subtle surface details.
