I graduated from Bath Spa University in 2018 with a First Class Honours Degree in
Textiles Design. Since graduating I have continued to create my own work and develop myself as a textile artist. While also embroidering part time at a high-end fashion accessories brand and a luxury interiors business.
My embroidery is far from traditional, I create my own intricate 3D embellishments which are combined with beading and hand stitch to form a truly unique surface. Some of my artworks are presented in frames while other pieces become sculptural forms in their own right. The highly labour intensive nature of my work means my pieces are usually quite small in size, however I want to challenge myself by producing large-scale installation pieces.
My artwork is very decorative, and I like to work to a narrative and give my artworks meaning. For example, my current pieces are all inspired by coral bleaching: our vibrant coral reefs are bleaching due to rising sea temperatures. Some of my artworks celebrate the beautiful life of the corals as I use bright and bold colours while other pieces are completely white and show the delicate nature of the bleached corals. I hope to help educate people with my work on the harmful effects of climate change and why we need to look after our fragile ecosystems.
Currently I’m exploring using more sustainable and recyclable materials to create my 3D embellishments, making my own paper sequins and using up-cycled plastic packaging. I believe it is time to question our use of plastic as a form of decoration.
Projects
- Coral GardensCoral bleaching is the initial inspiration for this collection. I wanted to capture the beauty of the living and healthy corals though my embrodiery. To gather primary research of the living corals I visited Bristol aquarium to photograph and draw the organic coral. I also referenced secondary imagery of corals found in Sir David Attenborough’s latest series of Blue Planet and in National Geographic Magazine. I wanted to capture the vibrancy of the coral and create highly textural, innovative
- Sustainable CoralThis artwork looks at coral bleaching: our vibrant coral reefs are bleaching due to rising sea temperatures. I have chosen to recreate these beautiful corals, creating a mini coral reef but completely colourless to capture the delicate nature of this ecosystem. I have created intricate embellishments and my own sequins using non-plastic materials. While also using hand stitch and beading to create a highly decorative surface. Materials used includes card, plastic bags and packaging materials.

Gained a basic understanding of knit, print and weave before specialising in embroidery design. My degree collection challenged the perception of embroidery creating a collection of highly unusual and textural surfaces responding to the theme of coral bleaching.
