I’m Laila Virji, a University of Westminster undergraduate in Graphic Communication Design, graduating with a first-class honours degree. I'm currently working as a Design Intern at Chorus, as well as setting myself up as a freelance designer and photographer. Through my degree, I have worked on project briefs spanning physical educational publications to digital interactive apps. In my personal time, I enjoy exploring cities and spaces around the UK and wherever I get the opportunity to travel. I enjoy capturing details using photography, and incorporating my findings through my design briefs.

- Architecture is just frozen emotionFor this project, I focused on the relationship between human emotions and architecture. Within art and design, as creators, we use our emotions to inspire our work and I wanted to highlight this by developing a series of double exposure expressive designs to represent the varying emotions. Emotions are represented all around us, and I wanted to draw attention to how the building around us reflect emotions like vexation, aggression, anguish and stress through expressive designs and typography.
- Open Day Posters - Type Exploration with Long Exposure PhotographyThis project asked to develop an Open Day poster that can be showcased on the next University Open Day. A list of possible subject areas was handed out and we were given free regain to develop possible ideas around whichever subject interested us the most. Part of the brief asked us to present hierarchy within our designs, presenting the information required to be included without work, working with typographical techniques to help do this

Working in the role over the past three-plus years has given me a great insight into how to build memorable customer experiences, by talking to customers and listening to how systems could be developed to suit how they interact with the world around them and bring these ideas into design briefs.

Tackling a degree while the world goes through a pandemic, has taught me how to learn to adapt project solutions to fit with how an audience would now interact with the world around them, exploring how the physical can be used in new ways, and how the digital can be pushed its limits. Graduating with a First Class Honours Degree this summer.
