Projects
- 2nd Year Final WorkTranslating drawn illustrations into a sewn textile piece by experimenting with different found papers, fabrics and coloured threads is the main focus for this project. I was particularly fascinated by the detail of cross-section drawings from botanical illustration books. My project evolved, incorporating dyed fabrics into my collection and presenting my stitched fabrics in contained simple boxes to imply it as being a museum collection. With this work I have enjoyed exploring the structure of flowers and the scientific details, using free hand machine stitch. I am really interested in natural and organic themes, and hope to develop this further in the future.
- Final Major ProjectFrom a young age I grew up going on long country walks and hearing my Grandads love for gardening, so flowers have always been a major inspiration for my work. The scientific detail used in old botanical illustrations influences my collection in the way that I draw and embroider. I have produced a collection of silk and paper bags using a variety of sewing and embroidery techniques, including freehand machine embroidery and natural dyeing. Using flowers to dye natural fibres has been a very exciting part of my project. Each bag has been repaired using hand stitching and traditional mending techniques referencing ‘Bags for Life’.
