  • Olympic Triangles - London 2012
Olympic Triangles - London 2012This sculpture was influenced by the ‘Bridging the Gaps’ brief objectives to create work developed through cross-disciplinary practice and the looming inception of the 2012 Olympics held in london. The idea spawned from exploring areas of pracatice that link different disciplines, such as Engineering, Sciences, Design and the Arts. A strong relationship that exists between different creative and industrial based practices is structural strength and patterns that are inherent within form. This is illustrated in nature in plants and bone matrixes etc... and lattice strctures used in Architecture and building for there tensile and compressive properties. The tetrahderon is a platonic solid and was chosen due to its triangular strength and uniformity in assemblage that became a metaphor for the athletes competing and existing as inter-connected whole. The culmination of all the units and their relationship together that aided the ability to generate and infinte number of froms became paramount. This notion allowed a strong link to be created between the athletes, event and sculpture. As the idea of the sculptures construction is dictated by the athletes positions and their choice of placement.
  • Southend Airport - freelance work for International Sculptor John Atkin
Southend Airport - freelance work for International Sculptor John AtkinThe outline for this project was to collaborate with Sculptor John Atkin to create a place at Southend Airport for seating and the application of a sculpture to act as a iconic figure for the airport terminal and meeting place. The first idea illustrated on page one unfortunately was rejected by the leading associates at Southend, but welcomed a series of inter-connected steel light beacons and granite and marble seating. The beacons yet simple in appearence provided challenges in CAD and manufacture. Patterning conical shapes is not a simple process so an algorithm was developed with the help of PHD student Abbey Patterson using grasshopper. Abby Patterson is a specialist in CAD, the application of 3D printing and has conducted pioneering researching in the development of printed products for the medical industry. Working alongside Abby was a great experience from, which I learned and progressed a great deal. The sculpture was completed by break pressing patterned apertures and rolled to create their conical forms, which were then welded in to parts.

  • 'Paper as Process' Workshop/presentation
'Paper as Process' Workshop/presentation'Paper as Process' was a project tailored to encourage cross-disciplinary research and collaboration. Paper was the perfect tool to illustrate this due to its flexible, experimental, exploratory and infinite nature to create almost any shape. I collaboratively hosted a presentation and workshop with Architect and friend Eccles NG. The workshop was open to the whole of Loughborough University and attracted students for Design Technology, Mechanical/ Civil Engineering and the Arts. The presentatio
