About me
I am a recent graduate of Limerick school of Art and design where I completed my BA in sculpture and combined media. My bachelor’s degree thought me the vital skills needed to both create and understand art works in order to aid in the selling of contemporary art. I also have vast skills and knowledge of both Mac and Pc soft wear including the full adobe editing suit. Further to my BA I have gained vital knowledge of working within the art world by working with EVA international, assisting to Dan Gunn Gallery at art Basel and further more working with Frieze project towards the end of last year at Frieze Art fair. During my experience mentioned I have learned how create press releases, budget for upcoming exhibitions and discuss art works in a critical manor in order to aid in the sale of art works.

Seduce and suck, Open, LSAD 2016 Personification of a hoover played further into the ideas of the domestic and sexual. The inspiration spinning from tales from adolescence of boys masturbating with the hoover nozzle. Although, a male sexual object in this term, the object again masks the artist and focuses is given to the objects nature, domestic or sexual?
  • Give's a lick, Graduate show LSAD, 2016
Give's a lick, Graduate show LSAD, 2016 Give’s a lick, is a series of masks that transition between domestic and fetishized objects. The combination of created utterances by the artist interjected with audio clips of current domestic advertisements, explores both female sexuality and domesticity. Selected materials from the domestic such as gelatine, leathers and metal reinforce the concept of the fetishized object. These objects reference and subvert the traditional depiction of the female role within the domestic.
  • Every last wrinkle, Plinth II , 2016
Every last wrinkle, Plinth II , 2016 Mellina Van der Vaulk | Sculpture and combined media Every last wrinkle, 2016 | Performative Video Instillation. Mellina Van der Valk’s work is a creative exploration of performances, object making and video works questioning the female domestic stereotype created through a focus on the advertising industry.  In these artistic explorations I explore objects seen to be female and how they play a role in female lives. Transitioning between domestic and fetishized objects I explore female sexuality and domesticity. Current works of masking the artists face explore the nature of both the domestic and sexual stereotypes. Selected materials from the domestic such as gelatine, leathers and metals bring forth the idea of fetish and in turn question female stereotypes. The deconstruction of these object in video performance cause to question the female domestic role and how we interact with domestic appliances commonly associated with housework
