About me
Nadine is a graduate of Illustration & Visual Media, BA (HONS) at UAL London College of Communication. She is a reliable collaborator, confident lone worker, problem solver with a meticulous eye for detail and an ability to create solutions driven by the demands of the brief. Nadine's practice UAL involved a close attention to Printmaking including Screenprinting, Lithography, Print Production and Etching. Nadine is also confident in Bookbinding and the Adobe Creative Suite. She is constantly on, devouring ideas like sweets, having written and illustrated several narratives and publications including Satire, Charity work and Collaborative Projects. Nadine has an interest in creative roles in Advertising and Marketing, this was demonstrated with her Marketing and concept inspired by Fortnum and Mason's picnic hampers. She illustrated and designed packaging for a selection of traditional English treats, for a Alfred Hitchcock Hamper. This was featured in her final degree show at London College of Communication.
Projects
  • Cafod Magazine - Editorial Illustration
Cafod Magazine - Editorial IllustrationI was approached by British charity CAFOD, to illustrate and design a spread for their quarterly magazine (Side By Side). My illustration was also used for a educational study guide for school children.
  • The Three Musketeers: Book Cover
The Three Musketeers: Book CoverI produced an alternate book cover for Alexandre Dumas’ novel The Three Musketeers, which is in-keeping with the aesthetics of Dumas’ contemporaries. My hand drawn illustration shows a highly detailed sword adorned with a Musketeer mascot stood on the hilt. This is an appealing design for a contemporary audience as it evokes humour as the same Musketeer can be seen on the spine of the cover on his break enjoying a cup of wine – a la Oliver Reed. The dust jacket is produced by hand with Lithography, whilst the hardback cover is hand-bound by myself with a suitable flamboyant crushed velvet.
  • The Alfred Hitchcock Gentlemans Hamper
The Alfred Hitchcock Gentlemans HamperMy final self initiated project has been the creation of concept, design and illustration of ‘The Alfred Hitchcock Gentlemen’s Hamper’: a proposed product inspired by quintessential English expat Alfred Hitchcock, and his well documented taste for Fortnum & Mason hamper selections. The proposed product is a lunch-hamper that includes a pork pie, cheese, crackers, chutney jars and a bottle of Bordeaux all adorned with images of Hitchcock in suitably expressive poses. Together with his personalised directors chair and picnic furniture, and a filmic aid by way of the mesmerising Grace Kelly and Cary Grant in ‘To Catch a Thief’ (1955). As an exhibit – suitable for a window display- this eludes an idyllic atmosphere for any British diner in need of some luxurious home comforts.

  • The Foundling Museum: Brochure Design
The Foundling Museum: Brochure DesignAs the Project Manager and Lead Designer, I produced a hand made guide book alongside a small team of collaborators. The guide book illustratate my peers visual reponses to The Foundling Museum's exhibits and history. The book consists of two sections, and features original Screen Prints produced with Foil Blocking, this accompanied an exhibition held at The Foundling Museum, to celebrate our 6 month project with the Museum. The cover design, features personal effects from my classmates, in response to the personal tokens exhibited in the museum, which belonged to the children of the hospital.
  • The Tardigrade in Space
The Tardigrade in SpaceI have produced a large Screen Print of the Tardigrade. The Tardigrade is an incredibly unique microscopic animal, measuring at just 0.5mm it can survive in radio-active environments, and sub zero and above boiling temperatures. It’s most appealing trait is its ability to withstand the vacuum of space. By magnifying the scale of my illustration, I have explored the relationship between experimental mark making and colour in Screen Printing, to present the Tardigrade in space. The Screen Print is produced with multiple layers, with each print offering a unique one off finish.

My role at Laurence King Publishing, involves producing dummies of the new book titles that are due to be released, working closely with the Sales and Marketing Manager and Rights team. By using my skills in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop, my responsibility is to proof designs, by making amendments to flowing text and colour correction. I help to concisely represent the content to retailers by editing the content into a manageable format. As recent graduate of Illustration and Visual Media, I am able to offer my insight into new styles and trends to a thriving Publishing house which specialises in Illustrated titles. My meticulous precise eye for detail, is an asset to the company as the material that I produce is the clients first point of contact with new titles. These materials will also be featured in the prestigious industry Frankfurt Book Fair.

As part of The Foundling Museum’s collaborative project with my course, the brief was to produce creative responses to the museum’s rich history. As the Project Manager and Lead Designer, myself and two collaborative students produced a publication to document the creative contributions from my class, which was printed, designed and bound solely by myself; this can be found in the museum’s artist’s archive, and was used for a pop-up exhibition held at the museum to celebrate the success of the project. My roles included: • Creative Direction • Booklet, Brochure layout design • Graphic Design • Project organisation • Promotion and organisation of a client based project and exhibition
