Projects
- Opening the Cabinet of Curiosities Part IV&A Research Institute (VARI) project. Curators, scholars and artists worked across disciplines and methods to re-examine the 19th-century reception of the Renaissance Wunderkammer as well as its contemporary expressions. The team co-produced a publication, 'A Field Guide to Curiosity - A Mark Dion Project' with conceptual artist, Mark Dion.
- The Leman AlbumV&A Research Institute (VARI) project. Interdisciplinary team of curators and conservators are researching 97 vibrant 18th-century drawings on paper by James Leman of Spitalfields. Europe's earliest dated silk designs, they are too fragile to be put on permanent display. The team is piloting a digital version of the designs, which also reconstructs Leman's visual sources and recovers the relationship between the designs and the textiles woven from them.
- Encounters on the Shop FloorV&A Research Institute (VARI) project. Artists, musicians, surgeons, anthropologists, historians, scientists and curators investigate 'ways of knowing' described as embodied knowledge and work towards a model for including fine hand skills in higher education. The V&A's collections provide a hub for productive encounters between expert embodied-knowledge makers and 'made' objects.
