About me
My name is Roisin Marijke Knappert, a.k.a Ricky. Originally a painter and sculptor, my work is a hybrid of Art and Design. I specialise in typography, illustration, branding and advertising, often with a keen lean towards projects that are socially or politically motivated. I recently won a Creative Conscience award for my book 'Dangerous Symbols' that explores protest movements and design systems from the past 70 years. Based in both London and Lisbon, I am a D&AD New Bloods winner who is looking for more opportunities.
Projects
  • The 7 Steps
The 7 StepsThe 7 Steps are a series of checkpoints for managers in the creative industry, specifically the Ogilvy&Mather network, to ensure a project is completed properly for both the client and the creatives. To separate us from typical corporate Sharepoint sites, I chose to elevate the numbers from type to imagery, and spliced the original Ogilvy typeface to make new bold, abstract numbers. Each number has it's own spin, with some splices using the same angle as the Ogilvy tartan, staying true to the
  • Nudgestock 2023
Nudgestock 2023Nudgestock is the biggest behavioural science festival globally, hosted by Ogilvy & Mather's consulting arm. For 2023 the theme was 'MESSY,' to see what could be pulled out of the messy parts of our organisations, our minds, our commutes and our digital landscape. What is beneficial to business in mess? I took the N from the Nudgstock logo to use as a visual holding device that I could expand the 'mess' out of and around, exploring a range of messy imagery in static and motion applications.
  • Radical Type & New Forms: Zine
Radical Type & New Forms: ZineA project of typographic creation and experimentation, to ask the questions: How far can type be stretched until its more than simple communication? What can I learn from that manipulation? Where is the line between design and Art? Consisting of my own type, photography, a full alphabetic zine, and accompanying exhibition posters for 'Radical Type & New Forms.'
  • WASTE Magazine
WASTE MagazineCovering topics from plastic consumption to agriculture, WASTE aims to encourage the viewer to take responsibility for their own. As the front cover implies, a passive smile does nothing to hide the amount of waste being tallied up behind it. Composed of several independent projects which include: interviews with designers and engineers, case studies, poster campaigns, photography, and illustrations.
  • Dangerous Symbols
Dangerous SymbolsA protest-stencil book designed to help readers to protest creatively, and learn more about the history of the relationship between activism and Art- to 'Protest. Stencil. Campaign. Create'. The first chapter covers Artists who have been punished for engaging in political movements, and how their work becomes a catalyst to visually define that movement and its values. The second covers protests from the past few years and their social impact, and the third explores how symbols we use in our ev
  • MILK Poster Series
MILK Poster SeriesThis series acts as a subversive advertising campaign to inform the viewer about the dairy industry, its environmental impacts, dietary myths, and treatment of animals. The bottles were collected over the course of 2 months as a study into household waste, and photographed to capture the range of shapes they can create when manipulated. These dancing patterns, and bold typography, are designed with the intention of catching attention in public settings.
