- The Bluestocking JournalFor my MA final project, I created a journal for smart women called The Bluestocking. The name pays homage to an eighteenth century society of the same name that believed that women deserved the same education that was provided to men. The Bluestocking as a brand understands the nuance of young women, that being interested in items of High Culture and Low Culture are not mutually exclusive. Young women’s interests are myriad, and the main ethos of The Bluestocking is to not only champion these i

Editorial team internMarie Claire UK
London, United KingdomInternship
I have spent four weeks with the features team at Marie Claire UK. Whilst here, I
conducted news research and pitched relevant news stories to the team daily. I wrote multiple news pieces that were published on the website as well as assisted with research for others. I have transcribed multiple interviews for the writers and have contacted PR’s for product information for shopping pieces. I also uploaded and edited multiple articles on the CMS system and edited photos for size.

I gained a distinction in my MA fashion journalism project. The feedback read: Part of the brilliance of this project is the talented line-up of contributors which is a tribute to your ability as an editor to get people to believe in your journal, as well as finding the perfect features for them to contribute. You have certainly achieved the mix of high and low culture, “interesting and educative pieces” while balancing a playfulness in tone, as stated in the evaluative statement. What makes this magazine fascinating is the zeroing-in on niche subjects by expert (or obsessed) voices; such as Baker-Miller pink. The opening poem sets the tone for the magazine in its playfulness, originality and relatability. It feels both old-fashioned and very now.
