  • Creativity x Sustainability x Community
Creativity x Sustainability x CommunityWhen asked about their diamond-patterned staircase, @raeburn_design responded by opening their doors to all. Soon after however, their store was robbed. An unsurprising crime given these uncertain times, but one that hit home hard for me as a 20-year Hackney resident. If these walls could talk, they'd say "we've been on this inner-city Hackney strip for near 10 years now". Yet sometimes doing the time means you'll be a victim to crime. In response to this, I wanted to unify a collection of Hack

WRITER: Boots Riley’s Career Is The Blueprint For ArtivismI have followed the work of Boots Riley as a kid, a truly inspirational rapper. In this article, we look into his work as an activist and film director because as he well knows, stories have an impact -- they can incite change https://medium.com/@WordsFromGoke/boots-rileys-career-is-the-blueprint-for-artivism-9b11c46952f
  • PHOTOGRAPHER: A Shore Place
PHOTOGRAPHER: A Shore PlaceFeeling inspired by a Ronan McKenzie shoot, I wanted to show the subject as lost in a sea0-of-green. With garments courtesy of AYM-Studio creating an elegant silhouette, and a shooting kit courtesy of the Pentax MV1 with 28-105mm zoom, we were able to combine sophistication with a vintage aesthetic. I also wanted to create an overwhelming feeling, so I purposely oversaturated the colours to exacerbate the effects of the mighty sun. Location: Shore Place, Hackney Model: Anna Chetwynd-Staplyton C

  • Why We Tinted
Why We TintedAs a budding British-Nigerian caught at the edge of the city centre booming with progress, entrepreneurial spirit, and a zest for life, it can be hard to know where you’re going or where you’ve been. A major reason for starting Tinted is to connect the BAME community through photography and film. But it’s also for more selfish reasons. To learn a skill that will help me tell others where I’m going and where I’ve been. Storytelling is a tool to do just this. And storytelling in film, even better.
  • Racially Appropriate yet Violently Benign
Racially Appropriate yet Violently BenignGifted a Kodak Brownie 127 from his estranged mother living in London, young Vanley found innocent curiosity in the process of photography whilst still in his homeland Jamaica. Starting from this serendipity, he has now become a key ingredient to black British history. He has spent his life documenting it, so it’s safe to say that there’s a lot we might not know about our past people if not for his work. https://medium.com/tinted-book/racially-appropriate-yet-violently-benign-1f5fae690461
  • Back to Black
Back to BlackHere at Tinted, we support the growth and education of creatives in the photography industry. BLM in the last few weeks has highlighted the struggles that many black creatives face in this industry by pushing it to the forefront of the public eye. https://medium.com/tinted-book/back-to-black-500f65b52980

My role is to liaison between various departments throughout London such as different police departments, city council members, recruitment agencies, and school departments. We work to bridge the communication gap between these sectors. On top of this, we run local and borough-wide events which aim to unite the community. For instance, we regularly visit schools to leader enterprise workshops. Currently, our main focus is the police violence in the local area. To combat these we are working on projects to re-integrate the police into the Hackney community.
