Any recommendation on using a good bookkeeping tool, as I'm starting out as a freelancer?

- I use QuickBooks and Starling as a bank account. They connect amazingly well and it’s easy for my accountant to access what they need to for reporting.

- I'd say "start as you mean to go on". Pick a HMRC compliant tool, which can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/find-software-thats-compatible-with-making-tax-digital-for-income-tax Personally, I use Sage, and have found that to do everything I need. :-)

- Another vote for Xero here – I use it for payroll and MTD (VAT) as well, so it'll continue to accommodate you as your business grows. The UX can be frustrating at times but it's not a deal-breaker.

- I use Xero. Seems to be universally used with clients and accountants etc. Quickbooks is another popular one.
