Are there any creatives working extensively with alternative software?
I consider myself quite an alternative when it comes to software use. I work mainly with Blender 3D, and I prefer Affinity apps over Adobe. I find the final results indistinguishable from those achieved using more "industry standard" software.
Would love to hear what you think and if you have experiences/ideas of other less known apps, you'll be most than welcome as well :)

- * Grin * maybe you should turn the question around: who doesn't?Most alternative software is free (GNU) so here here is a major plus in contrast to commercial software which is mostly so expensive that it's simply out of reach for the most of us.A little list: Blender 3D, Gimp, Freecad, Marlin, Slic3rd, cnctoolkit, 5xmonkey, linuxcnc, Rhino 3D, Horus 3D, Cutepdf, meshlab, etc, etc.
- Clip Studio Paint is a great cheap alternative to Photoshop, I use it for my colour illustration and comic work.
- @Daniele Daldoss Yeah, the newest Resolve versions have Fusion included. But you could also download as a separate program. I haven't explored that bit so much as I'm quiet new to the program myself!
- @Daniele Daldoss Yeah, I love Pixelmator Pro!I actually did buy Affinity recently too, but haven't really used it yet.But let me know what you think of Pixelmator :)
- I agree with @Sara Nguyen . Davinci is a great software. I can't remember what doesn't come with the free version but it's really good.
- Facet.ai is a new image/video editor flying under the radar a bit. We use AI/machine learning to automate tasks like masking and assist with colour grading. It's a pro grade platform, all based in the browser (no downloading or installs necessary). It's free to sign up for The Dots members: facet.new/dots.Let us know what you think?
- @Sara Nguyen I downloaded it and I need to learn more about. It seems a fantastic software. Do you know if it may be considered an alternative to After Effects?
- I do like using Davinci Resolve for video editing and colour grading. Such a great program for free.
- @Marco Riosa we are on the same wavelength... I love Blender and it's the main piece of software I use for my work!
- Hugely investing into Blender skills at the moment - you can create so much within one free piece of software! Such a gateway drug for 3D, ha!
- @David Sturgess me too! The very first moment I found it I fell in love!!!
- Affinity is absolutely amazing for the price, prefer it to Adobe suite hands down!
- @Dhruve Shah I never used it... is it good? I started using intensively Affinity software and I have to admit I'm really excited to share the knowledge I acquired.Smoot running is a must... I got extremely bored of 3D Studio Max for this very reason and I LOVE Blender also because it creates zero problems!I'll download Pixelmator today :)
- I usually tend to use Pixelmator Pro over Photoshop or Lightroom, although have both. It's pretty great, and runs really smoothly.
