Are there any good freelance job platforms for designers in the UK? I have been told to stay away from Fiverr and PeoplePerHour etc.

- @Li Ang I can imagine a platform such as peopleperhour could be an ok place for a starting out junior designer to accumulate some experience without too much risk. So probably not for me.
- I've also wondered a similar thing Morgan! I don't have any solid advice to give, and would love to keep up with this thread, but I definitely agree with the below comments on both sides.I've recently been in contact with someone who asked me to help them with some designs, because they looked on Fiverr and didn't really have a good experience there (described it as like a fleamarket and broken promises). Can't say that this is what it's like as a whole on Fiverr, but what they looked for was someone to work alongside with rather than just extracting work out of them, and someone genuine and honest about what they could/couldn't offer.
- I don't actually have any platforms to recommend. Just want to share that when I first started on my entrepreneurial journey as a designer (with no contacts and no design peeps) - PeoplePerHour was a place I got work from. And yes, like Geoffrey said, bidding sites does no favour (in terms of self-worth and self-esteem to freelancers). However - it was a good learning ground for me at the start of my business journey. I very quickly learn the value of my work, what my work was worth and what I want to be charging and the kind of clients I want to work with, plus it gave me some income at that time.
- @Geoffrey Bunting Thank you Geoffrey, that's a great answer. I will look into those platforms you mentioned. I don't agree with those bidding sites either. I will stay clear for the benefit of us all!
- Yeah, you want to steer clear of all bidding sites. Some are worse than others (Fiverr and 99Designs especially) but they all work on the same model of driving down prices and exploiting users.YunoJuno, Wishu, and UnderPinned are some I've found during my research into these kinds of sites. They're not perfect, often directing you to inappropriate jobs (as a book designer I get a lot of UI things thrown at me) but the occasional job filters through the chaff. YunoJuno in particular is bad at this, as they give you five jobs to look at and that's it. UnderPinned is more of a traditional job board. You could try those.
