Digital Design covers all manner of things. Is it better to specialise, or work on anything that sparks an interest?

- Having worked with digital innovation since the early 90s, my take is 1. digital is still a relatively young industry, and the foremost pioneering change happens at the intersection of one domain and another. For that reason, keep your sphere of awareness broad. 2. Know your strengths, but keep experimenting and keep developing new skills, particuarly as may relate to any emerging or likely soon to emerge developments. 3. Whatever you think you may take things, ensure your folio of skills and projects is stand-out, and offers something few or any others can. 4. Don't over-stretch yourself. Have a clear idea of what you want to gain from each project you do, and though ensuring to be adapatable - in markets like these you'll need to be - also know your limits. 5. As a creative, if something stands out, then, absolutely, explore the idea, but do your research and dilligence, and don't feel you have to rush into anything. Hope that helps.
- Hi Peter,That is a really good question. In my experience it is a bit of both: I would say start with something that sparks your interest, that you feel is a true contribution to the field's culture or leads to an interesting solution. Once this is established I would asses if you rather focus somewhere specific when executing. In doing so you can capitalise on the project based on both the general idea and your specific contributions.Hope this helps!
- Hello Peter,I would say decide it based on 3 things:- level of seniority. By age naturally you find your focus as a creative- where you work fi. in London there are plenty of creatives and so it's rather common practise to be focused / really good in one kind of thing. In more Eastern European countries I would say there are less opportunities and people expect you to do everything as one creative superstar as could not afford 2 different kind of designers even in their wildest dreams.- are you employed or self employed. Naturally if you work on someone else you have to consider how diverse skillset they expect from you. If you are self emploed you can decide that you doing unicorn gifs is your niece and nothing else.
- I would personally try to keep your interests as broad as possible for now, and discover what excites you most as you do so
