Hi editors! Have a question for you: How much is your daily rate?

  • @Ross McClure Hey! Thanks for the info. You're right, its not the same thing with every project or client, so yeah, I'll keep it in mind. And also, I will check Bectu's ratecards.
  • Ha, the age old question that has been passed down from generation to generation!

When I started out freelancing in 2013, I was charging about £200-250pd as I was keen to get work and just wanted to get onto jobs.

Now that I've been editing for over 10 years, I'm a much better editor, with a wide skillset and lots of experience. I charge around £350-400pd depending on the requirements of the job and who the client is.

Worth noting that the vast majority of my work is for online and digital video for social media, brands and some corporate work. There are set rates for both commercial and TV/film work which are available to see if you search for Bectu's ratecards, although these are suggested and not always the going rate for a project...

It's also worth discussing the budget options with the client and trying to be open with them in order to maintain a good relationship. Sometimes you can do a project rate rather than a day rate if it's a high number of days and they need to save a bit of cash.

Equally, do explain to them exactly where the money is going (importing, cutting, sound mixing, grading - if needed, graphics, exporting and delivery) so that they understand how much things cost. It will only make things easier in the long run!

    Good luck!
