Hi! I'm a freelance copywriter but struggling with price setting. Any copywriter who can help me out to compare prices? :) Thanks!

  • Check out Professional Copywriters Network and Major Players - both issue annual reports and average salaries
  • Some people charge per hour, others per word. Either way, I think these are poor models.

It's better to charge on perception of value. Literally -- what is it worth to your client? Complex, deep-dive topics are doing to be more difficult to deliver, but presumably yield a higher return for your client.

I'm actually a web designer, but the idea is similar. I wrote more about this here https://thebusinessofwebdesign.com/marketing/brand-positioning/how-do-you-price-a-web-design-job/
  • I have exactly the same question! I need to quote for writing 2 blog posts a month. I’m at the beginning of my career as a freelance copywriter but have worked in the print industry for 18 years. How much would others charge for this?
  • Sure - PM me if you want to chat. I find it much harder now with remote work as that generally works on project rates best as opposed to day rates. As a rule of thumb I'd encourage you to quote higher than inclined. Both freelancers and women structurally underquote ; )
  • I set my prices based on my level of experience, with help from recruiters and on that note I'd also recommend Major Players - they have a report they do yearly on average salaries and day rates. Super helpful!
  • Hi Babette, Have a look at Work Notes (aslo @worknotes on twitter) https://worknotes.co.uk/ and Pro Copywriters - https://www.procopywriters.co.uk/help-advice/freelancing/suggested-rates-for-hiring-copywriters/ (adverage day rate is £342)
