I'm thinking of starting a series of career/team development workshops, anyone done this as a side hustle and any top tips?

  • Hey Leon,

Firstly, amazing that you are taking this step. Establish a clear focus of who your career/team development workshops will be targeted at and research where to find them. Don't be afraid to reach out to them personally to invite them to your workshops especially as it will be new to get people familiar with it. Lastly, take full advantage of your network and community get them to share it across different platforms. For example, platforms like the Dots are a great place to promote your workshops especially if your target audience is the creative industry.

I hope this helps Leon! :-)
  • Hey Leon,

If you have all the topics you want to cover in mind then that's a great start. If you have one topic that can be developed into several events then that's another great way to go about it. For example, if you're targeting Account directors or anyone that pitches some event ideas for a series could be 1. Public Speaking 2. Developing winning pitch decks 3. The art of selling in a non BS way etc. For venues I would suggest creating venue partnerships and running the series at one venue for ease of planning. Promotion - social (of course!), Networks/groups, Email list (inclu external ones) and always encourage the speakers/hosts to push the events. Hope that helps! Can always send a DM with more Qs.
  • Hi Leon, it depends on which industry and which type of workshops you want to focus on. It could be a non-industry focused series offering various transferable skills? If you want to tailor it to your specific industry, maybe sending our a survey to ask people / ask them on social which skills they need. The type of venues and locations will depend on your type of workshops and audience. And do spend around 2 months or more on planning and promoting the events as it always takes time to find the right speakers, sell tickets etc. Hope that helps
  • Hi Leon,
If you haven’t already, I'd also recommend posting this as an opportunity to our collaboration hub here:

It's completely free to post. I hope you find someone amazing :)
