Interested to hear what pixel dimensions everyone is using for website page width? Full page width and also left and right margins. Thanks

  • Nice to meet you!

It depends on what kind of device is assumed, but when making it for display on a PC, the minimum size was about 1200px. Since many people view websites on smartphones these days, we have not specified this in much detail recently.
  • I don´t have anything specific and I decide it based on the project.

Fluid designs with large images I do 1920px wide.
Most websites probably somewhere around 1400px. Exact layout depends what grid and gap I use.
Minimum I consider for desktop is 1280px. Everything smaller is considered as tablet view.

I do play around with different grids between 12-16 col etc. And it would be quite boring to use something defined for every project.
So most of my decisions for canvas size are pretty practical. Do I need to export out large assets later. What kind of screen client is using for previews etc. So usually marketing sites and projects with larger creative assets come as 1920px and more data dence SAAS and dashboards I tend to go for smaller size to make sure that there is enough room for data, tables and other UI elements.

For mobile my go to size is 375px. I do consider that there are active users who use 320px wide screens so I always try to consider the fact that everything has to fit there.

Margins. Mobile usually keep everything 16px ak 1rem. If it is really data heavy project I go 12px and for minimalistic creative designs as wide as 20-24px.
For Desktop I usually consider minimum around 48px ak 3rem however again every project is different. As an example if I know that top navigation has a lot of content I may decrease side margins to 24-32px minimum.

If you want to play it safe and choose one fixed width for the container I would go 1200-1240px.
