Looking for creatives in their 30s, 40s and 50s from every nook of the world to participate in an experimental short film

Hello! We are looking for collaborators to take part in an experimental short film, And I Thought of Home, a work built on the contingency of narratives of ‘home’, interrogating and renegotiating the complexities of identity through seemingly disconnected lives brought together. In short, eight participants are asked to record their ‘home’ for a week, ‘home’ understood in their own terms, whatever it means to them and their individual forms of expression.

The work builds on the style of Lilly Zhuang’s previous short documentary, As Far As Our Eyes Can See, which was nominated for Best Documentary at the BFI Future Film Festival in 2021. The new project follows a similar collaborative style on a larger scale.

With our collaborators’ perspectives and contributions, this project studies the raw, enigmatic – and sometimes painful – theme of belonging. By bringing together disparate stories and making visible the inherent connections between, and the sociability of, daily lives, this film makes visible what we all have in common in a time where so much of our political discussion is divisive and focuses on difference.

We are looking for a diverse group of creatives in their 30s, 40s and 50s from all around the world. The project is a visual diary made plural. We want to hear your voice and interpretation, to understand the concept of home through your eyes, with you. Participation in the collaboration is unpaid but credited. Send us a message and we can talk more about the project and what part your storytelling can play in this narrative.

Thank you,
Ella & Lilly

  • hello, I'm a Spanish composer, have lived in the UK for 18 years. As an immigrant this is an ongoing question/practice in my life; that has also being highlighted by personal circumstances plus wider circumstances, like Brexit. I would love to collaborate in creating a score to support the emotional message of the film. I'd love to have a chat to find way in which we can collaborate together : )

  • Hi Ella and Lilly,

I would be interested in composing music, creating sonic soundscapes that could glow all the stories narrated on and for this project!

    All the best,
