What are your career or personal goals for 2021?

I'm looking at how to progress from entry-level in digital marketing to the next stage, after a career change from the events industry. As well as healing and finding that "new normal" as the vaccines roll out.

  • I'm not sure my advise will be of any use, but i would encourage you to think really hard about what makes you happy. If the lockdown has taught us anything, it's that when we have time to reflect, we seem able to make clearer decisions on what we want and don't want in our lives. Keep that balance between the necessary and the desired in balance so that your career last a long time and that it's happy.
  • Hi Emi, you've entered a growth area of marketing so should be able to do lots of progressing over the next few years! Personally one of my key goals this year is to be put less emotional intensity into things I'm working on, so I'm enjoying the journey more! Have had a tendency in the past to try and control every detail and sometimes think that can restrict the space for opportunities! Hope 2021 brings you all you hope x
  • Hi Emi,
At a professional level, I want to consolidate and expand my network in a new creative discipline I have been training myself during this year. I would also like to support those driving change, both in a paid role and non profit. I understand this is a critical point for junior and recent graduates in the creative field and I find bringing some perspective based in my experience is very rewarding.
On a more personal note, I would like to keep the awareness on issues that 2020 revealed and live from there, hoping not to contribute to unhealthy systems.
    Hope this helps!
  • We face an uncertain landscape.

As we know, even low level, regular exercise can help us with structure, purpose and resilience.

With my local outdoor gym fenced off I downloaded the NHS Couch to 5K app.

It wasn’t long before I could run for a solid 30 minutes, however, that positivity needed an outlet.

So, I joined an online creative community called One Minute Briefs (OMB).

Every weekday a creative brief is set for either fun or a not for profit cause.

It still amazes me that this community can extract a creative idea out of anything presented to it.

During this period I also registered as a mentor and within a couple of weeks I received a mentee request.

As well as sharing creative processes, I was able to set briefs, based on my experience with OMB, and help my mentee build a portfolio of work.

Looking at the broader picture I believe exercise positively invested into creativity can enhance a sense of wellbeing.

In short, having creative ideas makes us feel good.

My goal for 2021 is to further research and understand how to help junior creatives (and anyone else) develop in the following ways:

Personal - ideas make us feel good
Professional - how to come up with more ideas

All feedback on this project welcome.
    Thank you

  • Career-wise I'm aiming to establish my wee business much more solidly, after two years of faffing it's about time! Personally I want to travel more when we can, and live a comfortable lifestyle that works for me, not living by others' expecations.
Best of luck with your progress!
  • Change country and start freelancing in the art production while building my own media project! We all have a lot to do this year, best of luck with your challenges Emi. (And let's hope events will reborn one day!!)
