What has COVID, being in Lockdown and Working from home taught you about yourself?

What has been your biggest struggles, accomplishments, wins and what have you learnt about yourself?

  • Hi Ramon,
Its taught me that I don't need to be in a studio to be creative, but I do need all the other creative people to talk too, and to go out and about to places to free my brain and be inspired. I'm so proud how everyone at jkr has rolled with the new normal and I have huge admiration for their tenacity to keep doing great work.
  • I just wrote a big paragraph about my experience and then deleted it because i felt embarrassed. But to put it briefly - I have learned that i am only one person, and I bet a lot of mums can relate. There has been a lot to juggle.
  • Hi Ramon,
I am used to flexible working so in a way my mind set up was already trained and I reckon my struggle it has not been as hard as for other people.
However it has been a bumpy road but I would say that the main learning here is how to fuel yourself through motivation and discipline. I am the reactive creative type so in need for interaction; I have found ways to stay connected and get the creative juices going.
Also having the time to reconsider your skills, experience and where do you want them to put them to use has been great although challenging sometimes.
    Does this resonate with you?
  • I learned that consistency and self-discipline is key. Also, investing in yourself is one of the best decisions you can make, even if it would cost some money. Be it online courses, joining coaching sessions/masterclasses within your expertise/industry, self-help books -- when you surround yourself with good company/mentors/ideas, you'll realize that the opportunities are endless.

There's a tendency to wallow in self-pity and feel really vulnerable these days. We're witnessing a pandemic that's unheard of. But when I learned to take care about myself first, somehow, it's easier to handle the stress that comes with running my own design firm each day.
  • I've learned that there is so much more that I can do. I've watched/listened to several webinars with speakers that I would otherwise not have been able to listen to, which has been brilliant. I've learned so much and have so many morem ideas to put into practice to enhance my business going forward.
  • Great question!! Personally adaptability and patience have been the biggest key.
I’ve learned that I’m not actually a 9-5 person, before lockdown I’d have peaks and lows within this enforced working timeline, however in reality I get a huge amount of work done early in the morning and then another great burst of productivity late in the evening. Being a mother, I’ve had to also learn to home school and do all of the ‘real life’ admin during this period too. It’s been a baptism of fire as I’m sure it has for most people in so many different ways but incredibly proud of keeping it all afloat (with serious meltdowns along the way) and so much more compassion for myself and others when it’s all just been too much.
    What have you learned Ramon?
