What is the eco-paradox and how can we effectively tackle the climate crisis?

I AM OBSESSED WITH MY WASTE AND I LOVE IT ...

In my article at https://www.tamboos.co.uk/post/zero-waste-goals, I look at how replacing environmentally detrimental products with sustainable products is great and absolutely necessary but it is often, at the cost of shrinking pockets and expanding recycling bins.

So how can we really and effectively tackle the climate crisis by focusing on our waste?

Would love to know your thoughts on this piece!

  • @Paddy Loughman Thanks for sharing this initiative! Loving the stories and it is so pertinent for us to have a real shift in perspective that permeates all aspects of our life.
  • @Sophy Robson So true! It's almost like we are turning a blind eye to the involvement of top-down policies in climate change. It has consistently been about passing on the respnsibility to the consumers.
  • @Anna Negrini That's a very good point you make about how we really need evalute every part of our life - we can't be seemingly sustainable by using a bike but then give in to getting takeaways in plastic containers.
  • I was speaking with a friend who swapped public transports with cycling and he noticed that, since he was exercising more, he consumed more food and produced more waste (at home and also from take away food during his journey). This made me thought. Also if we think about the energy used from social media, bitcoin or NFTs server farms we should give up all of them.
  • Was watching C4 news yesterday how corporate lobbying companies were set up in the US to discredit climate science advisers so as to protect the fossil fuel industry and the investments of the shareholders. You couldn’t make this stuff up !
  • If still living within a capitalist society, then with a circular economy instead of endless growth. I hope we change our ways before it's too late.
