Creative Lives in Progress presents Pep Talk, an Instagram Live Q&A featuring a range of creatives with plenty of advice to share.

About Joe Puxley

Citing renaissance paintings and “wacky 90s photography” as influences, Brighton-based photographer Joe Puxley’s vibrant and hyper-realistic imagery often captures themes around youth culture.

After his dyslexia was made to feel like a problem in mainstream education, Joe was thrilled to join The BRIT School, where he felt his creativity and skills were valued. Today, Joe also uses photography as a way to challenge expectations about his dyslexia: “Photography makes me proud to have my mind and be myself", he tells us.

Since graduating in 2020, Joe’s photography has been showcased by the likes of DAZED, The Face, It’s Nice That, GUAP, Vogue Italia and Wonderland to name just a few. Added to this is also an impressive list of clients and collaborators that include Arlo Parks, Bree Runway, Matilda Cole, Warner Records UK, Island Records, Human Resources and House Of Holland.

Alongside Cleo Foster, Joe also co-created fundraising project, Bid for Equality; in aid of young Black creatives in the UK, the project was recently backed by DAZED, Nile Rodgers, Liz Johnson Artur and Ronan McKenzie and The BRIT School.

Join us later this month as we talk to Joe about starting out in photography, overcoming self-comparison in the age of social media and finding your artistic style.

See more from Joe on his website and Instagram, and read our Creative Lives interview with him.

About the host: Steph Fung

A 2019 graduate of LCC’s BA in graphic and media design, after working with the likes of The Face magazine, Studio Moross and The Mill, Steph built up a strong network before landing a role as a motion designer at Selfridges in 2019.

Today, Steph’s career continues to go from strength-to-strength – from building an impressive online presence to creating work for Vogue Singapore. Now working as a freelance 3D artist, Steph’s practice centres around her interests in interaction design and fashion.

See more from Steph via her website, on Instagram and TikTok.
