Description

We are looking for a Deputy Digital Editor for our editorial team as soon as possible.
Responsible for idea and content creation and curation on todays-golfer.com, this role is chiefly focused on hitting agreed targets for both core and commerce content. You’ll become an expert and ambassador in cutting-edge website best practice and be able to effectively communicate with SEO teams and developers, and relay this to a non-technical team of writers.
This role also involves liaising with the Digital Editor to continue delivery of web content on a daily basis and, in the absence of the Digital Editor, managing the running of the team and website.
Helping to grow the content commerce side of the business within golf, and managing a team accordingly, is now a key part of this role. By planning and managing the flow of products content, this part of the business can develop and grow. You will also play a key role in the recruiting and on-boarding of new staff, and the development of junior staff.
You’ll be up to speed on the latest goings on in golf and what matters to amateur golfers and fans. From the clubs in Rory McIlroy’s bag and latest equipment releases to the ongoing merger talks between the PGA Tour and the PIF, and the venues and purses for the year’s big events, you’ll be across it all.
You should have a passion for golf equipment, allowing you to create in-depth reviews, and know how golf clubs and balls for beginners differ from those used by Tour pros. You’ll feel confident testing products, interviewing industry experts and stars, and be happy managing projects from idea to publication. A breaking story, in-depth feature, or looming embargo will not daunt you or impact the quality of your work. Confidence and experience appearing on video and podcasts would be beneficial.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Utilising your journalistic and industry experience, you will help the Digital Editor to manage and develop members of the digital golf editorial team, including setting and monitoring KPIs
  • Managing the day-to-day running of the website and team in the Digital Editor’s absence
  • Supporting the editor with creation, planning and implementation of the todays-golfer.com content strategy, drawing on expertise from around the business to ensure the subjects we cover are relevant and topical
  • Assisting the Digital Editor in managing freelance staff and contributors, including photographers, videographers, writers and influencers
  • Creating and optimising high-quality and helpful content in the golf segment that precisely meets the needs of our audience
  • This includes researching, planning and writing comprehensive product tests and buying guides according to editorial guidelines and in line with current SEO standards
  • In addition, this will include more complex and research-intensive topics and formats
  • Creating accompanying photo and video material to provide our users with the best offers tailored to their needs in all relevant media formats
  • Customising content for various digital platforms, considering the unique requirements and best practices for each
  • Attending relevant press events and product launches and supporting sales events like Prime Day and Black Friday
  • Working in close collaboration with the wider editorial team, audience development and SEO management
What You'll Bring:
  • You have a passion to create golf content for everyone and ensure it serves a diverse audience
  • You know which trends are currently affecting the golf market, from 10K MOI drivers and the golf ball rollback to the ongoing battle for power in the men’s professional game and changing of leadership at the R&A.
  • You know what our users want, have a good feel for topics, have in-depth specialist knowledge and can also prepare complex content in an appealing and understandable way for our users
  • You have completed senior editorial training, a traineeship or be willing to carry out training at the Bauer Academy
  • You have sophisticated SEO knowledge and know how to get golf content to rank
  • You have vast experience in writing news articles, in-depth features, golf product tests and reviews and know how to best support and advise readers in their purchasing decisions
  • You are familiar with common content KPI and are able to use them to evaluate the performance of your and the team’s texts
  • You are data fluent and have a thorough knowledge of analytics and how we use them to drive or improve our content and rankings
  • You have a hunger to lead, along with a collaborative mindset, can-do attitude and a willingness to help the team evolve
  • Your writing and communication skills are of the highest standard
  • You know how to create engaging posts on social media platforms
  • You can create a clear plan for engaging video and podcast content that will support the website and be happy to appear in the content
  • You are self-motivated, display excellent time management, understand prioritisation, are self-organised and have a hands-on mentality
  • An understanding of WordPress and Monday.com is desirable, but not essential
