The Role

We're seeking a dynamic Design Director to spearhead the creative vision for GLAMOUR, as part of the European editorial team, you'll ensure design harmonises seamlessly with content pillars for the brand across Europe while pushing boundaries for an engaging aesthetic, driving impactful visual storytelling. This role demands keen attention to detail, creative leadership, and a passion for innovative editorial design.
Reporting to the European Editorial Director, this role is pivotal in shaping and executing GLAMOUR's global design direction; you'll lead design teams across the UK, including Spain and Germany (remotely), to ensure GLAMOUR’s brand identity is executed effectively in these regions. Your expertise in branding, encompassing visual identity, guidelines, and developing a cohesive visual language will be instrumental for GLAMOUR's global presence. Additionally, you'll mentor and guide the creative teams, fostering their growth and maximising their potential.
Working closely alongside the European Visuals Director, the European Beauty Director and European Fashion Editor, you will be instrumental in collaborating on the creation of the brand’s visual output, including cover shoots, non-cover shoots, still-life, video content, social imagery. Also working with the wider brand teams on visual imagery and execution for events and consumer revenue projects. The role will include sporadic travel throughout the year to Europe or America, to art direct on high profile shoots and on occasion, collaboration with Glamour US and Mexico on global projects.

What will you be doing?
  • Collaboration with European Teams and European Editorial Director contributing creative ideas and refining visuals to ensure a cohesive global aesthetic. You will be working closely with the European Visual Director and the brand’s US counterparts to align on the strategic vision of the brand, whilst continuing to strive to elevate and inspire across all content.
  • Inspire and Motivate the Design Team: You will be leading a design team in each market to champion GLAMOUR’s creative vision. Your leadership will inspire enthusiasm and foster alignment throughout the development process, ensuring that everyone is motivated to achieve excellence.
  • Uphold Brand Identity: Serve as the guardian of GLAMOUR’s brand identity across departments and commercial projects. Your meticulous attention to detail will ensure consistency and quality, reinforcing our brand's integrity.
  • Provide Daily Feedback: Actively provide feedback on creative work to guide it in the right direction. Your input will steer projects towards success, ensuring that they align with our vision and meet our standards.
  • Flagship Projects: Involving yourself in all aspects of the design process on flagship projects. From shoots to social media, video content, events, and cover design, your hands-on involvement will set the bar for excellence. Manage relationships with external vendors to ensure smooth production processes.
  • Drive Ideation and Iteration: Lead the ideation, design, documentation, and iteration processes. By setting a benchmark for excellence, you will drive continuous improvement and innovation within the design team.
  • Oversee Design Development: Take charge of the entire design development process from conception to release. Your oversight will ensure that projects are executed smoothly and meet deadlines without compromising on quality.
  • Collaborate with Commercial, Events and Marketing teams to develop promotional materials aligned with GLAMOUR's design aesthetic. Your input will be invaluable in ensuring that our design efforts align with our commercial objectives and contribute to our overall success.
  • Work closely with US teams to execute a global vision, ensuring consistency while embracing cultural nuances.
Who you are:
  • Strong relevant experience, including proven experience in a similar leadership/management roles in the digital space.
  • Proven experience in editorial design with exceptional layout and typography skills including proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)
  • Extensive experience in art direction across multiple mediums including digital, social, video, print, and experiential platforms as well as proven on-set experience. A track record of being able to build brand ideas across various touch points.
  • Demonstrate leadership and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to mentor and guide design teams through all stages of development.
  • Excellent communication skills to articulate and present design concepts effectively.
  • Ability to deliver in a fast-paced environment, adopt a collaborative working style and manage multiple projects while maintaining high standards of quality.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to excellence in all aspects of design.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to evolving priorities and deadlines.
  • Knowledge of production processes and industry standards preferred.
Where will you be?
This is a hybrid role with 3 days a week in our beautiful Adelphi office, with breathtaking views over the Thames, and next to the hustle and bustle of The Strand.
