Description

Closing Date: 16-May-2024

We have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Marketing, Primary to join the Penguin Random House Children’s team on a fixed term contract basis to cover a period of parental leave, for 12 months.
Do you have extensive experience in marketing for children and family audiences? Do you know how to inspire and develop a team of exceptional talent? Are you able to articulate the value of audience-first thinking and consumer marketing to internal and external stakeholders, and balance both the short and long term needs of a high-performing creative business?
If you are an experienced marketer looking for a new challenge and you’re able to motivate and enthuse a team to deliver compelling, successful and audience-first strategies with a focus on the family market, this could be the role for you!
This role is also one of a core team of custodians for our Puffin brand – one of the most well known and respected consumer brands in the industry – and is an influential part of the team who holds the brand strategy and channel strategy for Puffin.
Our Puffin Primary list (that’s 8-12 years) boasts every book a child could want, from powerhouse brands such as Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Lottie Brooks and Tom Fletcher; stellar debuts such as The Swifts by Beth Lincoln, City of Stolen Magic by Nazneen Ahmed Pathak and The Whisperwicks by Jordan Lees; to genre-defining non-fiction from household names such as Adam Kay.
Our creativity is inspired by different perspectives, so we strive for our culture to be one of belonging, where everyone feels welcome and where differences are celebrated. We want to work with a wide range of talent as we find new ways to tell our stories.
Your key areas of responsibility will include:
  • Conceiving long term audience development strategies for our books and brands with a focus on the Primary (8-12) audience.
  • Devising and overseeing the execution of brand marketing campaigns for Puffin including consumer-facing campaigns, experiential, events, CRM, plus trade-facing and retail engagement.
  • Lead channel strategy across our owned channels for Puffin including on and offline campaign strategies with a focus on growing engagement and increasing sales.
  • Champion consumer-first thinking within the Marketing team, the wider Brand, Marketing & PR team and the division as a whole including sharing of insight and campaign reporting.
  • Ensure all campaigns are completely 360, aligned and integrated with colleagues across PR and Brand and always with a digital-first mindset, mirroring our audiences.
  • Allocate relevant budgets across book and consumer, continually reviewing in line with expected and actual KPIs.
  • Managing and developing a team of six marketers, from Senior Manager to Exec level.
Candidate Profile
  • Significant proven experience leading audience-focused marketing campaigns in the children's media space
  • In depth knowledge and passion for the children’s media landscape
  • Proven experience of coaching, motivating and inspiring high-performance teams
  • Proven experience working across multiple projects and campaigns at any one time
  • Excellent relationship building and communication skills.
  • An effective decision maker with a proactive approach and the ability to lead by example
