To find and produce stories of interest and distinction, working both with the Health Correspondent and Science Correspondent. To newsgather and produce high quality packages and live reports, focusing particularly on exclusive and distinctive stories in line with the broader ITV News agenda.
Key Responsibilities
  • To drive and champion health and science issues on a daily basis, spotting stories and trends whilst delivering exclusive and distinctive content
  • To work closely with the Health Correspondent and Science Correspondent to break exclusive lines and produce creative content across all ITV News Programmes, online and social media
  • Work on location to find the best angles/elements for ITV News coverage
  • To write scripts, online copy and produce graphics when required
  • To ensure location material is delivered safely and in good time for transmission
  • To run an efficient forward planning diary and work closely with the Head of Home News and Home Planning team to best deliver all content
  • Research stories for the best elements, lines, and angles
  • Commission interviews and picture sequences
  • Research, select, and edit archive material
  • Ensure that all work is within the various legal and regulatory frameworks applicable to all news
  • To work with other reporters and in general news and other specialisms on occasion

Key Requirements
  • Good understanding of the ITV News agenda and its audience on TV and online
  • A proven ability to use social and digital media to drive stories and content
  • Particular interest in Health and Science news of all types
  • High level of technical ability in editing and production of Graphics
  • Sound research skills
  • Confidence to travel at short notice, and operate unsupervised away from base
  • Concise writing style with flair, accuracy, and focus
  • Rich pool of ideas for stories, angles, and treatments, primarily in the Health brief.
  • A track record of creative journalism and production
  • Good communicator and team player, with a positive attitude
  • Good knowledge of Ofcom regulations and ITN compliance
  • Awareness and understanding of the financial implications of all decision making
  • A solid understanding of television production and newsgathering techniques
  • Excellent written English with a flair for scripting tight packages
  • Tenacity, attention to detail, organisation, enthusiasm and energy
