The Role
Condé Nast UK is looking for a Programming & Development Manager to join British GQ. The ideal candidate will report to the Head of Editorial Content and work closely with the team to create, produce and manage ground-breaking, innovative and original video content. Alongside the digital and audience development teams, they will work to spot emerging trends and help contribute to GQ’s online and offline growth.
This role is ideal for a self-starter who has a strong knowledge of digital and social media best practices and trends in interactive and digital storytelling. Candidates should have a deep understanding of what can scale organically online, a keen eye for social videos, and demonstrated experience creating short-form video content both on-the-fly and in longer lead projects. Experience in directing celebrity and non-celebrity talent would be hugely advantageous.
The ideal candidate will help deliver best-in-class video execution and is responsible for managing production resources (internal and external), timelines, budgets and final product delivery.
What will you be doing?
  • Oversee and manage the entire video production process for British GQ, ensuring high-quality output that aligns with our brand values
  • Strategically manage the programming of our channel, identifying and leveraging opportunities to feature talent relevant to current trends and the GQ audience’s interests
  • Lead and manage the British GQ Video team, fostering a creative and productive environment and ensuring team members are aligned with project goals and deadlines
  • Scout and assemble skilled crews for shoots, managing on-set behaviour to ensure a professional and conducive working environment. This involves selecting the right mix of talent and technical staff while maintaining the high standards and ethos of British GQ
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive content strategy for major events and tentpoles, overseeing the production process from conceptualisation to final output
  • Innovate and introduce new video concepts to the market, keeping British GQ at the forefront of digital media trends
  • Serve as a consultant and adviser to other departments on video production, offering expert feedback and guidance to enhance their video content
  • Keep abreast of the online media landscape to ensure our content is optimised for high viewer retention. This involves conducting an in-depth analysis of trends, viewer behaviours and engagement metrics, as well as implementing thorough rounds of feedback on the content produced, to adapt and refine our video content strategy for maximum impact and audience engagement
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including editorial, marketing and sales, to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach to content creation and distribution
  • Direct talent on camera with confidence and expertise, ensuring their performance aligns with the vision and standards of British GQ. Conduct thorough research to uncover engaging talking points and content that resonate with our audience and elevate the quality of our videos
  • Actively incentivise and promote diversity in both on-camera talent and behind-the-scenes crews. Champion a culture of inclusivity, ensuring that our content and workplace reflect a broad spectrum of perspectives and backgrounds, aligning with our commitment to diversity and representation in the media industry
Who you are:
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience producing and developing digital videos on various platforms
  • Strong digital-first editorial skills and demonstrated track record in creative execution
  • Experience managing a slate of multiple projects simultaneously
  • A creative and strategic thinker; a mile-a-minute ideas person
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Enthusiasm for GQ’s editorial point of view, and deep interest in exploring new and innovative opportunities for editorial growth
  • Demonstrated aptitude to work closely with external producers to represent the channel needs
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects at any given time
  • Excellent time management and organisation skills
  • Proficiency with Premiere and other Abode editing tools
