Schools Marketing Programme Lead
Pay Band: 8
Salary: Starting £38,820 (+ £3,300 London market allowance) – pro rata

Role Purpose
Learning Sectors programme
To develop and lead the strategic planning, and to create / deliver all required marketing activity, for the Learning Sectors programme, liaising with multiple internal and external stakeholders in the UK and around the world.
To be responsible for the day-to-day management of all Learning Sectors campaigns across owned, earned, shared and paid marketing channels - ensuring that all activity is reviewed and measured for its effectiveness against planned objectives and delivers value for money.
To create and commission relevant, high-quality content (including copy and campaign assets) in support of programme objectives in line with partner and British Council requirements and guidelines.
National Consortium for Languages Education (NCLE) programme
Additionally, to provide some marketing support, as required, for the National Consortium for Languages Education (NCLE) programme.
Context
Marketing and Communications at the British Council is a strategic function which drives awareness, understanding and engagement with us across our diverse audiences. We use insight, knowledge and analysis of our market and our customers to engage them with our work and our products and services in the most impactful and effective way.
Learning Sectors is a new international programme for schools from the British Council, supported by one of our partners, Formula 1 (the programme is initially for one year only, but may be extended). Young people around the world will build the skills to work in engineering and technology careers, inspired by real-life examples from leading experts at Formula 1.
The National Consortium for Languages Education (NCLE) is a programme (led by IOE, UCL's Faculty of Education and Society, with partners including the British Council) which aims to support high quality language education, and to increase uptake of languages qualifications in Key Stage 4 and 5 in English state-funded schools.
Main accountabilities
Strategy and planning
  • Plans, delivers and evaluates the marketing strategy and activities for the Learning Sectors programme – creating impact and ensuring alignment to British Council marketing strategies and activities.
  • Ensures campaigns are commensurate with programme prioritisation, scale and scope and are data-led, strategically aligned and sustainable.
  • Ensures effective scoping, costing, delivery, ROI and evaluation of all marketing and communication campaigns.
  • Communicates guidelines and policy for use of agencies and third parties in marketing campaign and communication activity. Provides clear briefs and manages the quality of creative output, checking brand and ethical marketing guidelines are adhered to.
Marketing Expertise
  • Leads on and manages impactful, consistent and replicable multi-channel marketing campaign plans for the programme.
  • Leads internal and external delivery of marketing campaign activity and relationships with internal and external suppliers on a day-to-day basis.
  • Leads on the day to day running of digital channels, and where appropriate, creates and commissions relevant, high-quality content (including copy and campaign assets) in support of programme objectives.
  • Keeps abreast of the latest developments and trends in marketing, and in the wider sector.
  • Provides expert advice, support and challenge on marketing to internal and external stakeholders.
Consultancy, analysis & problem-solving
  • Ensures the successful impact and effectiveness of marketing activity through evidence and evaluation and makes recommendations for improvement based on key audience insights.
  • Applies analytical approaches to identify and assess new opportunities for marketing activity.
  • Leads on the analysis of existing and potential audiences for the Learning Sectors programme to better inform the marketing strategy and the wider global portfolio.
  • Benchmarks marketing performance against industry comparators.
  • Distils complex concepts and analysis into cogent and persuasive presentations, which convincingly influence decision-makers about the case for significant changes to policy, practice or approach.
Commercial & financial management
  • Using agreed corporate systems and processes, where needed, plans and manages the budget for the relevant sector area.
  • Conducts monthly and year-end reporting on progress against plan and deliverables, budget, and management of issues and risks.
  • Actively applies learning from this process to improve financial planning, management and performance within their area.
  • Relationship & stakeholder management
  • Effectively influences senior internal and external stakeholders and clients on the case for marketing plans / investment
  • Proactively builds and maintains excellent relationships with internal and external partners and stakeholders to ensure integrated, joined up and future-proofed approaches and solutions.
  • Develops peer/personal networks within and outside Marketing to enhance own knowledge and expertise.
Leadership & management
  • Plans and prioritises own work activities to ensure effective delivery of diverse responsibilities and internal customer deliverables
  • Determines work plans and coordinates input from others to meet specific objectives
Role specific skills
Demonstrable experience and knowledge of:
  • Content management systems
  • Image and video creation and editing software
  • Digital marketing processes and applications

Minimum/essential
  • Experience managing complex global marketing programmes
  • Highly experienced in the design and delivery pf marketing strategies to support programmes/products
  • Experience in effectively negotiating budgets/resources with senior stakeholders
  • Experience of running digital owned, earned, shared and paid marketing campaigns, developing content marketing and effective evaluation
  • Experience in creating content (including copy and campaign assets), using industry-standard content creation tools and platforms, for multi-channel campaigns
Desirable
  • Experience of marketing within the cultural engagement or education space
  • Experience within a global organisation
