Politics is a crucial part of Channel 4 News television and digital output and the Westminster News Editor is key to driving our coverage of Parliament and its wider impact on people's lives. They will be making editorial judgements about a story’s news worthiness, guiding and supporting the original journalism generated by our politics team and deploying news resources as appropriate. The successful candidate will also be an important link between the political parties and Channel 4 News to help secure the most impactful interviews.
Drive and shape the political coverage for the Channel 4 News’ nightly programme and digital content
Set and pursue original stories
Bring in exclusive interviews and news lines
Oversee teams at Westminster, plan coverage of big political news events, newsgathering and manage cameras, producers, reporters and editors
Brief and deploy reporters and correspondents to cover political stories in an engaging way and to a high production standard
Have original production ideas for political packages
Oversee special projects and big Outside Broadcasts
Undertake work in the field alongside reporters and crews and travel when necessary
Have the ability to make quick judgements and decisions
Manage relations with external bodies, other broadcasters and other ITN political teams
Make informed legal and health and safety judgements
Set realistic but challenging objectives for reporters covering political stories

A track record work in political journalism including delivering exclusive stories and interviews
Experience of managing teams in the field
Excellent communication skills and an ability to sell Channel 4 News political coverage inside and outside the newsroom
Strong journalistic and political judgement
The ability to manage a wide range of tasks
Thorough and detail-conscious planning skills
A clear understanding of how Channel 4 News and ITN are structured and the infrastructure which supports our coverage
Excellent organisation skills
