The Space is teaming up with BBC Radio 2 to launch its first ever artist-in-residence scheme.
The Space and BBC Radio 2 are looking for their first ever artist-in-residence. The competition is open to professional artists who work in any medium – you could be a poet, a sculptor, a painter, or a multi-media artist – but there will need to be a digital aspect to the presentation of the work.
Judges for the programme include BBC Radio 2 Arts Show presenter Claudia Winkleman, and legendary British artist Sir Peter Blake!
The BBC Radio 2 artist-in-residence will receive:
a golden pass to BBC Radio 2 events for 12 months
a one off bursary of £15,000 and materials and travel expense costs up to £20,000
exposure to BBC Radio 2's 15million listeners, on air and on their web presence including publication and promotion of the work on The Space and BBC Arts Online
mentoring opportunities from leading figures in the world of Arts such as Sir Nicholas Serota (Director, Tate), Amit Sood (Director of Google’s Cultural Institute), Marcus Davey (Chief Exec and Artistic Director, The Roundhouse) or Indhu Rubasingham (Artistic Director, The Tricycle)
The search opens at 22.00 on Friday 10 April and closes at midnight on Sunday 10 May. The result will be announced on The Radio 2 Arts Show on Friday 12 June.
Judges are looking for an interest in Radio 2’s output; suitability of the work for a mainstream audience; evidence of digital opportunities around the presentation of the work and the ability to produce four works within the proposed budget.
The winning artist will have a wide range of subjects to draw from Radio 2's distinctive and rich programming, including the network’s Battle of Britain commemorations to the Folk Awards, Young Chorister of the Year toJeremy Vine’s daily current affairs programme, the Young Brass Award and to Sounds of the 60s/70s/80s.
