Committing to global health progress

Website and campaign for the IFPMA

Overview

Public health is vital for societal well-being and underpins the common view of a positive future, as articulated in the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Central to the SDGs is the formation of partnerships across sectors and in healthcare particularly the private sector has a key role to play.

IFPMA represents the research-based pharmaceutical companies and associations across the globe. To promote collaboration between its members and partners it sought to create a resource hub of active partnership projects to increase awareness and the potential for further collaboration in the future.
Challenge

Over 35 IFPMA members are currently working with partners from academia, development organisations, NGOs, foundations and other business sectors. With more than 250 collaborative projects ongoing, IFPMA needed a resource that could accurately reflect the scope, scale, and breadth of its collaborations working to strengthen health systems and expand access to quality healthcare.

As well as being a means to demonstrate existing activity in pursuit of the SDGs in real time, the website also needed to act as a learning and sharing hub that would enable wider cross-sector industry collaboration.
Create

Within healthcare there is a tendency for clinical and stark aesthetics. Based on our brand research and the IFPMA team’s own valuable insights we learned that those within the sector view their work as being about people – working together to improve other people’s lives. Nothing could be less clinical.

Armed with these insights we sought to create a more relatable tone of voice for the visual identity with a strong human core – handwritten typography and expressive graphical styles are combined with colours that evoke the SDGs while giving Global Health Progress its own distinct character.

The website is designed to offer two ways to interact with the data. SDGs in Focus tells the story of how the more-than 250 collaborations are supporting the SDGs through a series of infographics and data visualisations that update in real-time. Explore our Collaborations is a searchable directory of partnerships and companies with breakdowns by country, company, SDG target, diseases, access strategy, partners etc. Each collaboration has its own profile page, which is updatable by the steward company in question and the data feeds other IFPMA and industry databases.

To support the launch of Global Health Progress we developed a suite of campaign collateral including a keynote presentation, leaflets and takeaways and event collateral.
Change

Global Health Progress was launched on the occasion of the 72nd World Health Assembly in May 2019 with a keynote given by Director General Thomas Cueni.

The website acts as an invaluable resource hub for IFPMA members. It has been viewed by more than 25,000 people worldwide and since launch has resulted in a 5% increase in the number of active collaborations. We continue to work with IFPMA on the development of a series of reports focusing on specific disease areas and countries.
