Cheltenham International Film Festival - community engagement

  • Neil Buchan Grant

I recently moved to the Regency city of Cheltenham. One of my clear intentions has been to engage with my community, especially in the field of the arts. I recently responded to a call for help and volunteered my services to help document the inaugural Cheltenham International Film Festival. The task included shooting Q+A's, opening ceremony and closing awards ceremony. Some of this work is shown below.

Actor Director and writer Steven Berkoff, engages with the audience after the screening of his movie Shakespear's Heroes and Villans in Cheltenham
Legendry Film Director Mike Leigh during his Q+A after the screening of 2 of his early films 'Bleak Moments' and 'Nuts in May' in Cheltenham
Theatre and Film Director Josie Rourke in the grounds of Cheltenham Ladies College where she screened her movie Mary Queen of Scots and gave an animated Q+A to a packed hall of Cheltenham movie fans.
The Left Hand of Josie Rourke - Director of Mary Queen of Scots and up until very recently, artistic director of the Donmar Warehouse Theatre. I decided to create this montage after noticing how expressively Miss Rourke used her hands during her Q+A
Director Carl Hunter giving a Q+A after the screening of his latest movie 'Sometimes Always Never' in Cheltenham
One of the Judges at the Cheltenham International Film Festival awards ceremony, actress Emma Samms chats to CIFF founder Lesley Sheldon
