How live video all started with a coffee pot

The 7th Annual Lovie Awards honoured Dr. Quentin Stafford-Fraser (pictured with Sophie Wilson, inventor of the ARM processor) with a Lifetime Achievement Lovie Award for his role in the invention of the first webcam. An invention which began—as most good ideas do—with his and his colleagues’ need for coffee.
Dr. Stafford-Fraser’s invention of the XCoffee client stands as the clear precursor to the ubiquity of webcams on computers and devices everywhere. Watch our Lovie Letters interview—produced in partnership with Google— with Dr. Stafford-Fraser to learn how this essential technology got its start.
