We open Issue #1 with reports on ideas from the world of design, technology, food, art and music. NTS Radio DJ, Throwing Shade studied ethnomusicology, her show is a place where she explores her passion for finding new sounds and recorded music from around the world. On any one show you can hear recordings of melodic rhythms from the natural world, played next to the incredible music of the Kalash people.

In our meetings section, we speak to the immense Nelly Ben Hayoun; art editor of the New Yorker, Françoise Mouly; lead singer of Best Coast Bethany Cosentino and set designer Es Devlin.
